MySpace, Romance and Emotional Intelligence
Higher emotional intelligence discourages using MySpace for romance. Low self esteem encourages young adults in using MySpace for romance.
Romance being in this study: Romantic communication is conceptualized as looking for dates and building intimate relationships
MySpace users can create a homepage that includes favorite pictures, music, television shows, and books. MySpace has more than 100 million members, mostly teens and young adults. MySpace is a large online socialization network.

David’s reasoning: I know I said I didn’t include anything written outside of the US but just take a look at the past posts listed under ’Categories’ (located on the right-hand side of the page in the gray column) and tell me I was wrong in including this site
On Carpenter Library News a review of medblogs for patients.

SurgeXperience, Grand Round at Buckeye Surgeon
Another surgical grand round (yes they write and read medblogs) on Buckeye Surgeon.
Two dutch contributions, one from Laika, a medical librarian about: What would happen if nurses wouldn’t routinely measure temperature? Would infections be missed? Could this lead to more serious infections and other complications?
And yours truly: A post about the paucity of women who actually perform self breast exams, and whether it matters.

Paul Newman (1925-2008)
Yes I admired Paul Newman, excellent actor, but so did others apparently.
On Presentation Zen:
Paul Newman, one of the greatest American actors of all time, died yesterday at the age of 83. Newman was not only an absolute legend as an actor, but a great humanitarian and philanthropist as well (his Newman's Own food label, for example, donated all profits and royalties to charity, about $250 million so far). Newman always seemed like a truly nice guy who was unspoiled by his Hollywood-superstar status.
A lot of video fragments how else can you remember a great actor.

How Much Chocolate is good for your Health?
"The best effect is obtained by consuming an average amount of 6.7 grams of chocolate per day, corresponding to a small square of chocolate twice or three times a week. Beyond these amounts the beneficial effect tends to disappear," di Giuseppe said.

Deep Brain Stimulation for Addiction?
With the expanding knowledge of the neuronal circuits responsible for the behavioral disorders associated with addiction, though, DBS could become a future treatment option for patients suffering from addiction.
In people addicted to psychoactive substance it has been shown by Positron emission tomography studies that, when they take the psychoactive substance, dopamine is released in the nucleus accumbens, which causes “the high.”
They lack the decrease of the output neurons on this dopamine release. There is no brake on the "high" elicited by the drug and the subsequent dopamine release. This lack of inhibition causes activation of the reward system. The .....read more »
