Students capture stunning images of Earth

Very inventive an creative team of teenage students from Catalonia, Spain, calling themselves Meteotek have managed to launch a balloon into space to take photographs of the Earth. For an interview with some team members please read New Scientist

This affordable digital camera and control unit was attached to the balloon.

The Meteotek team of spanish students from IES La Bisbal school in Catalonia, Spain “hacked” the device so that it would take pictures during the flight.

By adding optocouplers to the power and shoot buttons, the camera could be triggered using the flight computer.
