Planetary orbits are in fact elliptical, though at first they will seem circular. Hasn’t much to do with misinterpretations of textbook graphics, but this dormant knowledge in a student’s mind that perhaps the elliptical nature of orbits contribute to hot summer, etc. This is actually a magnificent connection… just not in light of the inversion of seasons in the hemispheres.
