The Beauty of Pi and Chocolate

This is not about the wonderful book, the winner of the 2002 Man Booker Prize: The Life of Pi but really about the number pi which is 3,14159… Mathematicians can become crazy with this mathematical constant whose value is the ratio of any circle’s circumference to its diameter. This is the same value as the ratio of a circle’s area to the square of its radius.
There is a website for Pi-Day, you can even buy Pi T-shirts and buttons besides learning a lot about the number Pi and maths. Pi day is on 3/14 or for the Dutch readers on the 14th of March. There is a Dutch site about Pi-day and the thing that really got me excited is a chocolate letter Pi with again a special blog about chocolate pi, CHOCO-Pi, sorry this last tip is in Dutch. But I will certainly buy a chocolate Pi and make a photo of it. Won’t be getting it before Pi-day. There is also a contest, all you have to do is form the symbol Pi in anyway and make a photograph of it and send it before March 16, you can read everything about this contest on this blog.

Daniel Tammet “suffering” from synaesthesia and writer of the must read book Born on a blue day holds the European record for reciting numbers of pi. In 5 hours and 9 minutes he pronounced 22514 number. This is amazing since there is no pattern in these numbers. At least not for people without synaesthesia.
